Exceptional Diminutive Stoneware Inkwell with Cobalt Decoraton, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / STONE-WARE / MANUFACTURER. / Manhattan-Wells. / NEW-YORK," early 19th century, cylindrical form with tooled base and rounded rim with tooled edge, the recessed top with heavy cobalt decoration, featuring a large central hole surrounded by three smaller holes. Side of inkwell deeply impressed with Clarkson Crolius, Sr's oval maker's mark. Desirable form and maker, potted in an unusually-small size. This example is the smallest Crolius inkwell we have ever offered. A few short, tight lines in rim. Some other faint lines to body. Most or all lines likely occured during the firing. Some shallow chipped spots to bottom edge and a 3/4" chip to underside. H 1 3/4" ; Diameter 3 3/16".
