Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, probably Shinnston, WV origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and incised banding around midsection, decorated with two heavily-brushed bands of freehand vining, interspersed with freehand stripes. Base with script cobalt "2" flanked by dashes. Significant group of spidering cracks on left side of jar, with one crack extending horizontally across midsection of jar's front. Short, minor surface line on interior of rim. Minor, shallow nick with short line along inner edge of rim.
