Outstanding Redware Lion's Head Urn with Copper and Manganese Floral Decoration, Stamped "SOLOMON BELL / STRASBURG / Va," circa 1875, skillfully-potted urn with ovoid body and dramatically-flared rim with coggled edge. Handles molded in form of lion's heads. Front and back decorated with an elaborate copper and manganese tulip design, applied over a white slip. Impressed on shoulder "SOLOMON BELL / STRASBURG / Va." Impressive form and decoration. Provenance: Crocker Farm, Inc., Wm. Kelly Young Collection, Jan. 30, 2010; Christie's, The John Gordon Collection of Folk Americana, Jan. 1999. Restoration to one lion's head. Light wear to opposite lion's head. Rim chips. A few base chips. H 15".
