Rare and Fine Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and rounded rim, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flowering plant, featuring a circular blossom flanked by two tulips. Reverse with two rows of wavy lines in a drape pattern. One of the finest examples of Milburn stoneware we have offered in the past few years. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in Virginia. Very nice condition: shallow chipping to base, a tiny nick to bottom edge of rim, light wear to cobalt, and a minor in-the-firing chip / contact mark near base on front. H 8 1/4".
