Exceptional Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spaniel Bank, New York State origin, circa 1860, molded Staffordshire-type figure of a spaniel with collar, chain, and locket, decorated over the entire body with numerous cobalt dots and highlights. Bank slot in underside. Few blue-decorated American stoneware spaniels have survived. The fact that this example was made as a bank makes it truly remarkable. Possibly Jordan or Lyons, NY. Ex-Collection Bill Bertoia ; Crocker Farm, Inc. 2005 and 2008. Portion of front leg reglued. Otherwise excellent condition. Height 9 3/8".
