Highly Unusual Stoneware Bank Depicting a Black Man's Torso, probably Midwestern origin, late 19th or early 20th Century, the bank converted from a popular mechanical bank of the period, with the man"s mouth forming the bank's coin slot. The words "JOLLY N - - GER BANK" embossed on the reverse. Hand-punched hair. Salt-glazed exterior. A fine example of American ceramic folk art. Excellent condition with minor chips to base. H 6".
