Rare Stoneware Cuckoo Whistle, Signed "WM. RAAB / Waterloo, IA," Iowa origin, late 19th or early 20th century, molded whistle with Albany-slip-glazed shoulder, featuring the impressed slogan "I AM YOUR CUCKOO". Underside impressed "DON'T FORGET MET AT RALLYS AT PICNICS IN THE COUNTRY IN THE WOODS I AM YOUR CUCKOO". Various other impressed words throughout. Front impressed in small letters "MFG. BY WM. RAAB / WATERLOO, IA" along with patent date. William Raab was the son of Austrian immigrant potter, John Raab, and the family operated well-known potteries in Iowa for several decades beginning around 1875. Small sliver missing from edge of shoulder, forming a narrow hole. Otherwise excellent condition. H 2".
