Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Drape and Tassel Decoration, probably New Jersey origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, the shoulder decorated on both sides with an incised and cobalt-highlighted drape and tassel decoration, including impressed circular escutcheons between each drape. Excellent, early-style decoration. Deep 3 1/4” flake to one side. Approximately 4” x 3” glob of in-the-firing residue under one handle. Tight horizontal crack on side of jar. Heavy flaking to surface. Large chip and smaller chip to rim on side of jar. Heavy chipping to base.
