Large Glazed Redware Jug, probably Galena, IL, mid 19th century, approximately two-gallon ovoid jug with tooled shoulder, footed base, thick spout, and applied handle, the surface covered in a lead glaze over a colorful green and orange-spotted ground. Excellent color. This jug was collected with the other Galena pieces in this sale, and is likely an earlier example of pottery from this region, featuring a pleasing ovoid form. Large chip to top of rim, possibly caused during the firing. Two large chips and a few smaller chips to base. Contact mark to side of jug. Light wear to handle. Small spots of wear to surface. H 12 3/4".
