Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Profuse Coggled Decoration, South Amboy, NJ origin, circa 1810, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with two rows of coggled vertical ovals, underscored by an abstract coggled design of diamonds and ovals. Brushed cobalt dash to each side and highlights to the handle terminals. A nice example of New Jersey coggle decoration. Chip to one handle. Minor base chip. Minor chip on interior of rim. Two fairly typical, in-the-firing contact marks flanking one handle.
