Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder and ribbed lug handles, lavishly-decorated with large horizontal tulips on the front and back. Lid, also attributed to Remmey, decorated with cobalt swags. Heavy chipping to rim. Chips to one handle. One chip and small area of wear to opposite handle. Inverted Y-shaped crack from, extending partway onto underside. Small glazed-over chip to knob on lid, a small in-the-firing separation to underside, and a few short lines to edge. Some bubbling to cobalt on lid.
