Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Syrup Jug with Philadelphia Advertising and Cobalt Initials, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical jug with tooled and pinched pouring spout, the front impressed with cobalt-highlighted advertising "JOHN HOPKINS & CO. / IMPORTERS & DEALERS IN / CHINA GLASS & QUEENSWARE / 812 MARKET ST. / PHILADELPHIA." Impressed advertising surrounded by cobalt swags and dots, and underscored with the initials "J.C.P.," possibly the decorator's initials. This example is the first Remmey advertising syrup jug we can recall seeing. Chips to spout. Glazed-over stone ping to front and minor stone ping to reverse. Otherwise excellent condition.
