Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN WALKER," Washington, D.C., circa 1830, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim and heavily-arched tab handles. Decorated with Alexandria-style designs including two sweeping flowers on the front, four leaves on the reverse, and one under a handle. Similar decorations can be found on pieces marked "H. SMITH & CO." and "H.C. SMITH / ALEXA / D.C.," produced at the Wilkes Street Pottery of Alexandria, VA. Heavy damage to base. Cracks in underside, continuing onto base. Chips to ends of one handle. Small chip to end of opposite handle. Small rim chip on reverse, possibly in-the-firing. Sunken area to side under one handle. Staining to surface. Some hairlines near base.
