Three-Gallon Early Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1815-1820, ovoid jar with tooled foot, rounded rim, and large tab handles, decorated on the front and back with a stylized cobalt flower blossom flanked by leaves. Good color and unusual decoration. Possibly the work of Hugh R. Marshall or Henry Remmey, during the early years of cobalt-decorated stoneware production in Baltimore. Provenance: Found in Fredericksburg, VA. Large curving crack extending partway up side and connecting to other hairlines. Hairline on underside. Minor base chip. Some contact marks / firing flaws to cobalt.
