Unusual Stoneware Canning Jar, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and rounded wax sealer rim, the front decorated with three hoof-shaped flowers. While the jar's form and color are more consistent with Greensboro and New Geneva stoneware, the floral decoration is more reminiscent of the work of George and Albert Black of Somerfield, PA. Overall excellent condition. A few minor chips to shoulder molding. Faint 1/2" line in rim. Shallow 1" worn spot or in-the-firing contact mark at base on reverse. H 8".
