Outstanding and Very Rare Miniature Ohio Redware Spittoon with Applied Floral Decoration, Incised on Underside "A.L.S. / Manufactered [in] / St Johns(?) ohio," 19th century, wheel-thrown spittoon featuring elaborate applied daisy decorations with scored blossoms and leaves. Top surface with incised wavy line. Carved triangular opening at shoulder. Surface covered in a reddish-brown lead and manganese glaze. Incised initials and inscription indicating the spittoon was made in Ohio, possibly St. Johns, located in Auglaize County. Firing flaws to underside. Small chip to bottom end of one stem and a minor nick to one leaf. H 2"; W 3 3/4".
