Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Tulip Decoration, Huntingdon County, PA origin, circa 1845, ovoid jar with squared rim and heavily-ribbed handles, decorated on the front and back with an undulating vine featuring large tulip blossoms. Underside of one handle inscribed "2" in cobalt. Striking decoration with excellent color. Spidering cracks extending from under one handle. Recessed contact mark on one side. A few small base chips. Small glazed-over chip on interior of rim where a lid would rest.
