Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, Stamped "D. GOODALE. / HARTFORD," MA origin, early 19th century, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout and ribbed handle, the front decorated with an incised bird with ringed neck, triangular wing, and heavily-detailed breast, perched on a leaf. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Includes wooden stopper. Provenance: Skinner Auctions, 2005. Contact mark to front. Small separation to underside. Minor line at base, extending partway onto underside, which appears to be in-the-firing. 3/4" shallow reglued chip on top of spout. A few minor spout chips. Stone ping near base on reverse. H 12".
