Rare Early Stoneware PICKLES Jar, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," circa 1810, small-sized, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted word "PICKLES" on one side, surrounded in a cloud-shaped cobalt border. Reverse impressed with Clarkson Crolius, Sr., maker's mark, also surrounded in a cobalt border. A desirable Crolius form. A large L-shaped piece reglued, consisting of most of bottom and a section of base. Two thin cracks extend of of this reglued piece, measuring approximately 5" and 4" each. Chips and wear to rim. In-the-firing crazing to shoulder and some small stone pings to surface. H 9 1/4".
