Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Shield Decoration, Stenciled "T.D. HARDEN / PALATINE. W. VA.," circa 1875, cylindrical churn with tall flaring collar and lug handles, decorated with a stenciled shield at the center and elaborate flowering vines including roses and hanging bell flowers. Stenciled "5" with flourishes at base. A fine example of Palatine stoneware. Provenance: From a Western MD collection. Chip to shoulder molding on reverse. Thin crack on underside, extending 9" up reverse of churn. H 18 1/2".
