Scarce Glazed Redware Tobacco Jar, probably A. Wilcox, West Bloomfield, NY, circa 1855, cylindrical jar with applied handles and incised bands of straight and wavy lines, the surface covered in a lead and manganese glaze. A similarly-shaped example, signed by West Bloomfield, NY potter, James Pilsbury, was sold by Crocker Farm, Inc. on March 5, 2011. Provenance: Recently found in New England. Excellent condition: Some spots of glaze wear to rim. In-the-firing separation at end of one handle. Faint short lines at base, which appear to be in-the-firing. H 5 3/4" ; Diameter 6 1/4".
