Rare Glazed Redware Lidded Jar, New England origin, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled midsection, flared collar, and applied tab handles, decorated with a daubs of manganese over a honey-colored ground. Includes original domed redware lid with highly-unusual form. Lid features a wide, flaring knob and flattened rim, the surface decorated with daubs of manganese over an olive and orange ground. Underside of lid is unglazed, and includes a flange to hold it in place. A fine and unusual example. Provenance: Recently found in New England. Small in-the-firing separations on top of lid. Small chips to lid. Rim of jar with small chips and moderate wear. Several base chips. Two small chips to one handle and a tiny chip to opposite handle. Light wear around midsection of jar. H (including lid) 10 1/2".
