Scarce Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "W.H. LEHEW & CO / STRASBURG VA," circa 1870, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and applied strap handel, decorated with brushed cobalt swags around the midsection, additional swags flanking the collar, and dashes below the rim. A good example of Strasburg, VA stoneware. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example consigned from Maryland. Thin 2 1/2" crack from rim. Small chips to molding at base of collar. A few small base chips. H 9 1/2".
