Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Reclining Deer and Tree Scene, Stamped "RIEDINGER & CAIRE / POUGHKEEPSIE, NY," circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed cobalt scene of a reclining deer with turned head, resting below a tree flanked by tall grasses and shrubs. Provenance: Lynn White Collection, Reedfield, ME. 4" crack on underside, extending 9" crack up front of crock. Colored 5 3/8" crack from rim to right of the right handle. 2" hairline from rim on reverse. A few chips to bottom edge of crock. Several small chips on interior of rim. Two chips on exterior of rim. H 11".
