Scarce Double-Handled Stoneware Jug Cooler with Incised Floral Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, early 19th century, approximately four-gallon ovoid cooler with heavily-ribbed handles and incised decoration of a tulip plant extending from a cross-hatched stump. Heavily-incised detail to tulip blossoms. Circular bung hole at base accented with highly unusual circumferential tooling. Professional restoration to cracks and large area on front, with one restored crack extending to side of jug and the other extending around to reverse of jug. Two unrestored hairlines extending from restoration on front. Spout chip. Chip under one handle. Contact mark on front. H 17 1/2".
