Rare Stoneware Canning Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Pruntytown, WV, circa 1870, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and tall narrow collar culminating in a "wax sealer" mouth. Front decorated top-to-bottom with a flowering plant design consisting of three large blossoms with dashed stamens, extending from a central stem. Brushed stripes at shoulder and base. A fine example of West Virginia stoneware. Provenance: Tom McCandless Collection, Hopewell, NJ. As-made condition. H 10 1/2".
