Two-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware "Choice Butter" Crock, attributed to the Fulper Pottery, Flemington, NJ, late 19th century, cylindrical crock with applied lug handles and tooled and cobalt-highlighted bands at shoulder, the front slip-trailed "Peter J. Nevius / Choice Butter". The Flemington, NJ merchant, Peter J. Nevius, was born in Somerset Co., NJ, on January 8, 1824. At one time, he was partnered with a member of the Fulper family. Provenance: Tom McCandless Collection. Four chips on interior of rim. Two small base chips. Two chips on underside, which likely occurred in the making. H 9".
