Very Fine Tanware Pitcher with Elaborate Freehand Decoration, New Geneva, PA origin, circa 1875, elegantly-potted pitcher with bulbous body and wide, dramatically-flaring collar, the handle upswept in a manner reminiscent of Victorian washbowl pitchers. Body Albany slip-decorated with a sweeping fuschia vine design superscored by a series of dots and inverted drapes. Collar decorated with drape-like brushwork and handle decorated with dashes. A particularly well-crafted example of Western PA tanware. Excellent condition with a few minor nicks to molding at base of collar. H 6".
