Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Paddletailed Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed and brushed cobalt design of a paddletailed bird perched in a flowering vine. Provenance: Tom McCandless Collection, Hopewell, NJ. Restoration to area above bird, and touch-up to cobalt on 1" section of bird's wing and 1 3/4" section of stem at base. Several thin cracks to reverse. Small flake to one handle. Small rim chip on reverse. H 11".
