One-Gallon Stoneware Tapered Crock, Stamped "SOLOMON BELL / STRASBURG / Va," circa 1875, tapered crock with squared rim and tab handles, decorated with brushed cobalt swags. Unusual form for this maker. Provenance: Descended in the family of Betty Cooley, the wife of potter, Richard Franklin "Polk" Bell. Several small base chips. Wear and shallow chips to interior rim. A few small chips to exterior of rim. Small handle chips. A few faint lines, which do not extend through to interior. Some exfoliation to interior base area. H 7 1/4" ; D 9 3/8".
