Very Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," circa 1810, finely-potted, ovoid jar with squat form, flared rim, and open loop handles. Impressed with a four-line mark of potter, Clarkson Crolius, Sr. on front, surrounded by a cobalt circle. Reverse decorated with an incised foliate design highlighted in cobalt. Outstanding small size and fat-bodied form. One of the finer examples of Crolius stoneware we have ever offered. Glazed-over stone ping to foot. 1" faint hairline on underside, continuing 4" up reverse side of jar. 3" hairline from rim on far left side of front. In-the-firing crazing to top of rim and one handle. H 7".
