Rare Anna Pottery Stoneware Snake Jug, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1885, slender cylindrical jug with sloped shoulder and narrow rounded spout, incised across the front "Little / Brown Jug". Handle in the form of a hand-modeled and applied snake with heavily-incised scales and face, coiled around the neck of the jug. Jug covered in a brown Albany slip glaze. Snake is grayish-colored, decorated with daubs of brown. A highly-prized ceramic folk art form. Provenance: Recently found in Canada. Spout chips. H 6 1/4".
