Small-Sized Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder, decorated around the body with three brushed cobalt flowers. Lid decorated with brushed cobalt swags. Three hairlines from rim, measuring 2 3/4", 1 3/4", and 1 3/4". Base with 3/4" hairline, extending 1/4" onto underside. Lid with small chips to flange on underside and flecks of white paint on surface. Lid is impressed "2" on underside, and is probably not original to the crock. H 5" ; Diameter of crock 7 1/4".
