Westerwald "GR" Stoneware Jug with Incised Decoration, German origin, circa 1770, bulbous mugwith tooled foot and heavily-tooled collar, the body decorated with an incised fan-shaped floral motif surrounding an applied Georgius Rex medallion. Surrounding area highlighted in cobalt slip. Collar decorated with manganese. This example was recovered from the Suwannee River, which runs from Southern Georgia to Northern Florida, and may be have been an Indian trade item during the late 18th century. Surface lacks some shine from its time in a riverbed. Excellent condition with a hairline at base of handle and a minor 1" X-shaped line to right of handle. H 6 1/2".
