Very Fine Westerwald Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Applied Floral Design, German origin, circa 1690, bulbous jug with rounded foot and heavily-tooled collar. Profusely-decorated with an incised plant ending in applied grapes and Tudor roses. Body and collar decorated with colorful purplish manganese slip. Applied leaves and flowers highlighted in cobalt slip. A magnificently decorated example. Rim chip on reverse. Hairline on underside, continuing 1" up base of jug. Some light wear to applied decoration. Very minor short hairlines on interior of rim. H 7 1/2".
