Extremely Rare Glazed Redware Jar with Manganese Tulip Decoration, New England origin, possibly Norton Family, Bennington, VT., circa 1830, small-sized, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with an elaborate brushed manganese tulip decoration over a yellowish lead-glazed ground. Design features three tulips with heavy leafy brushwork at base, dashed leaves along stem, and dashed stamens at the tips of the blossoms. Handles decorated with manganese dashes. Design is consistent with those found brushed in cobalt on Julius Norton stoneware. Exceptional decoration. Rim chips. Several small glaze flakes. Contact marks to front. Wear to handles. H 7 3/4".
