Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, attributed to Dave the Slave, Lewis Miles Stoney Bluff Manufactory, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1856-59, ovoid jar with large handles and flared rim with an inner ledge to support a lid, decorated with a streaky brown alkaline glaze. Shoulder incised "X" along with three slash marks. Provenance: Brunk Auctions. Includes documentation from the McKissick Museum, Columbia, SC. 3" x 7/8" loss to rim. Chip and reglued 3" wedge at rim. Chip at end of one handle. Pre-firing dent at base. Minor base chip. 3" hairline from rim. Damage occurred during Hurricane Hugo. H 12 1/2".
