Rare Three-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Churn, Stamped Twice "D. CAGLE / WHY NOT N.C.," Dan Cagle, Moore County, NC, late 19th century, finely-potted, semi-ovoid churn with heavily-incised shoulder, flared collar with rounded rim, and applied ribbed handles. Impressed under each handle "D. CAGLE / WHY NOT N.C.". Excellent condition with a few small chips to bottom edge of rim, a small chip and a glazed-over chip on top of rim, and some in-the-firing lines at base. H 17 1/2".
