Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Incised Bird and Floral Decorations, Stamped "G. LENT / TROY," circa 1815, ovoid jug with tooled spout and applied handle, decorated with a skillfully-incised design of a bird perched on the stem of a flowering plant. The plant's four-petaled flowers are incised with hollowed interiors and dashed details to edges. A fine example of early incised work from New York State. Provenance: From a forty-year Ohio collection. Significant, but stable, exfoliation to reverse, extending around the sides of the jug. This damage has smoothed over the years, and appears to be very old. Discoloration to surface. Shallow chip and minor line in spout. A few small base chips. H 12 1/4".
