Two-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Unusual Cobalt Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1845, low-walled cylindrical crock with applied tab handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt swag and hanging flower or grape cluster design composed of numerous open ovals. Numerous cracks on underside with slivers of clay missing. One of these cracks extends up side and onto rim. A second crack extends from underside 2 1/2" up base of crock, where it forms a Y. A third crack also extends from underside 5" up side of crock to base of handle. A 3" hairline extends off of this crack. There is also a small sliver of clay missing from this crack, though this sliver does not extend through to interior. H 7" ; Diameter 12 1/8".
