Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Tulip Decoration, Stamped "KEESEE & PARR, / RICHMOND, / VA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, squared flaring rim, and applied lug handles, decorated front and back with a large brushed tulip. A fine example of Richmond stoneware. Signed examples of Keesee & Parr stoneware are most often found in the form of two-gallon jars with cobalt swag decoration. Signed floral-decorated examples are quite rare. Excellent condition. In-the-firing salt and iron drip extending down one side below handle. Minor chip on interior of rim and a minor chip on exterior of rim. Also a glazed-over chip on exterior of rim and two glazed-over chips on interior of rim. Flaking to interior base. H 14 1/4".
