Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Foliate Decoration, Crolius or Remmey Family, Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, approximately two-gallon ovoid jar with rounded foot, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and back with similar incised foliate designs, brushed over in vibrant cobalt slip. Jar is out of round. In-the-firing 1 5/8" loss to edge of one handle. Stone pings to surface. Small chip on exterior of rim and larger chip on interior of rim. Large base chips. Flaking to base along with a 1" chip out of surface at base. H 11 3/4".
