Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Bird Decoration, attributed to the Whites Pottery, Utica, NY, circa 1870, ovoid form with pouring spout, handle at base, and applied clay ears supporting a metal and wood bail handle. Front of pail decorated with a slip-trailed bird with long tail and crest, perched on a stylized branch. Glazed-over stone ping on underside of spout. Stone ping to left of bird. In-the-firing base chips, one of which measures 1 3/4" long. 3 1/2" horizontal hairline at base. H 9 3/4".
