Rare Stoneware Jug with Incised Decoration of Woman's Head, Northeastern U.S. origin, late 19th century, straight-sided jug with rounded shoulder and tall spout, decorated with an artistically-rendered incised design of a woman's head, highlighted in cobalt. Reverse with incised hanging grapes designs. Handle in the form of a snake, its head with an open, multi-toothed mouth forming the upper terminal. Handle incised with numerous scales. Base of handle incised with a mouse's head, underscored by an impressed key tip and drape design. Highly unusual decoration. Spout chips. H 9 1/2".
