Extremely Rare Molded Multi-Glazed Redware Pitcher, with Raised Floral Design, attributed to S. Bell & Son or J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, molded pitcher with flared rim, pronounced foot, and spurred handle. Raised fleur-de-lis design descending from spout. Raised shoulder molding extends around pitcher's circumference, with a hanging leaf and flower design descending from it on the left and right sides of the pitcher. Surface decorated with heavy splashed manganese and copper over a yellowish slip, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Excellent color and extremely rare form. This is the only example of multi-glaze from this mold we have seen. Likely copied from an ironstone or Rockingham example. Two rim chips and small glaze nick to rim. Small spout chip. Minor lines in handle near upper terminal. Some scratches to surface. H 9".
