Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1875, wide, cylindrical form with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated with a series of brushed cobalt clovers underscored by a cobalt stripe on the front and back. Includes Baltimore lid, which is likely original, decorated with cobalt daubs around the edge and circles surrounding the knob. Crock with heavy chipping to rim. Two in-the-firing base chips, 1" in-the-firing horizontal line at base, and a 3" in-the-firing flake off underside at edge. 2" vertical hairline from rim. 3" horizontal hairline in rim. Faint surface line extending partway around base and 1" onto underside, which does not go through to interior. Lid with 3" line from edge, not visible on underside, and three chips to flange on underside. H 6" ; Diameter 12".
