Outstanding and Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. REMMEY / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," circa 1810, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flared rim, impressed with the desirable maker's mark of John Remmey III on one side, highlighted in cobalt. Reverse decorated with a finely incised foliate design with scalloped leaves, highlighted in cobalt. One of the better quality examples of stoneware by John Remmey III to be sold at auction in recent years. Exceptional size and finer-than-usual incising. Small contact marks and stone ping to front. Several chips to underside. Several base chips, the largest of which measures 1 1/4". Wear to rim. In-the-firing 1" vertical separation line at base, which continues a short distance onto underside. 1/2" in-the-firing separation line in rim. H 8 1/2".
