Rare Shenandoah Valley Glazed Redware Cup, Stamped "BAECHER / WINCHESTER, VA," circa 1880, skillfully-thrown mug with rounded foot, bulged midsection, and flared rim, the body accented with two incised lines. Surface decorated with daubs of manganese over a cream-colored slip, and covered in a clear lead glaze. The underlying olive-colored clay is visible on much of the surface, creating an interesting cream and green mottled coloration. Underside impressed "BAECHER / WINCHESTER, VA." Recently found in a thrift store in Georgia. Glaze wear to surface and heavy glaze wear to interior. Glaze wear and small chip to handle. 7/8" base chip. Glaze wear to rim, along with a 1 1/4" heavily worn chip to rim and a 3/8" chip to rim. H 4".
