Rare Large-Sized Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE / CORLEARS / HOOK / N. YORK," circa 1810, approximately four-gallon ovoid stoneware jar with tooled shoulder and open loop handles, decorated on the front and back with a series of impressed and cobalt-highlighted drapes and tassels. Jar is impressed on one side with the maker's marks "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE" and on the reverse "CORLEARS / HOOK / N. YORK." These impressed words, as well as the handle terminals, are highlighted in cobalt. Excellent color and unusually large size. Restored handle. Scattered flaking on one side, with some of the flaking having been filled and colored, including one flake on the "O" in "STONEWARE". 2 3/4" crack from rim on one side, which extends a few inches longer on interior. 2 1/4", 5/8", and 1/2" hairlines from rim. 2" hairline on underside, continuing 2" up side of jar. Two glazed-over base chips and two post-firing base chips. H 13 3/4".
