Rare Painted Woman Pottery Face Jug, NC origin, early 20th century, large spouted jug with metal and wood bail handle, decorated with an applied face and having a painted surface. One of a small number of jugs made by a Mr. Nelson during the 1920€„¢s in North Wilkesboro and discovered in the 1990€„¢s. Large Y-shaped crack under chin extending onto underside. Spidering hairline extending up from base on reverse. Cracks appear to be in-the-firing, as they are painted over with original paint. Very minor paint wear. H 12 5/8".
